SALLY Smith made it a day to remember at the Vale Golf Club by being crowned ladies club champion on Sunday.

Her gross total of 128 in the 27-hole competition secured victory ahead of runner-up Angela Catlin (133) on one of the busiest days in the club’s calendar.

The championship best nett score trophy was won by Kathy Cowell with 119 nett with Pauline Laight runnerup on 122½.

The Lady Captain’s Cup, played over 18 holes, was won by Rose Lee with a nett score of 72 with Sylvia Andrews’ 83 finishing second.

The Angora Cup, also played over 18 holes, was won by Karen Broderick with a nett score of 87.

It is the first time two sisters have won the Angora Cup and Lady Captain’s Cup in the same year.

Elsewhere, the ladies’ open three-ball alliance saw 111 players compete.

􀁥 Evesham men’s seniors beat Kidderminster 5-2 at home but then lost 4-3 at The Worcestershire.

Against Kidderminster, there were wins for captain Mike Abraham and Richard Steel (4&3), Neil Croft and Mike Brumage (4&3), Ian Facer and Ian Wood (5&4) and Bill Dobie and Phil White (2&1).

Peter Edmunds and Martin Williams and Dave Hartland and Alan Groves halved their matches.

Heavy showers proved testing at the next fixture in Malvern Wells but Croft and Richard Saville won on the 18th, while Mike Whiteford and Edmunds (3&2) were also victorious.

Facer and Williams and John Cook and Brumage halved their matches.

The seniors have yet to win on their travels this season although two of the losses have only been by a single point.
