EVESHAM-based National Superstock 1000 Team JD Racing rider Danny Johnson picked up eight points at Cadwell Park to move up to 14th in the championship.
The 2.2-mile demanding Lincolnshire circuit did not bring back happy memories for Johnson, who crashed twice there last season.
Despite finishing in 27th in practice, only small adjustments were needed to the Kawasaki ZX-10R bike’s suspension and brakes.
Rain fell at the start of final qualifying so Johnson went out on wet tyres and was eighth quickest when the downpour stopped mid-session.
He went to the pits for a quick tyre change but, on his return, was baulked by slower riders, having to settle for 23rd place and a start from row eight on the grid.
Johnson was up to 17th at the end of the first lap and moved to 10th by the final one. In a fierce battle, he cross the line in a satisfying eighth spot.
