Yasmin in form for Italian job

First published in Sport

EVESHAM rower Yasmin Tredell helped the Great Britain development rowing team win their best haul of five medals at the European Championships in Italy.

The 19-year-old was joined by pairs silver medallists Olivia Carnegie-Brown and Caragh McMurtry in the bronze-winning women’s eight.

With the final stroke of the race on Lake Varese, they pulled past Belarus and into the medal positions behind winners Romania and Italy.

The fifth-placed men's eight, featuring Tredell’s 24- year-old brother Lance, were just two seconds off the triumphant crew from Poland.

None of the GB Olympic squad raced with the championships again reserved as an opportunity for younger members of the team to gain competition experience.

Tredell is now part of GB’s high-performance programme at Oxford Brookes University.
