Division One up next for Pershore

PERSHORE Swimming Club have secured a prestigious promotion to Nuneaton and District Junior League Division One.
They finished second overall on 23 points behind top team Bilston’s 24 after the final’s total was added to the first three rounds.
Pershore achieved 10 first places, 11 seconds and 11 fourths in Wolverhampton and received the runners-up trophy, best turned out team accolade and a relay award.
Tazmin Pugh set two Division Two records alongside one each for William Gearey and Simon Sweatman.
Pershore’s road to success began only three years ago when they entered Division Three and immediately won promotion.
On finals day, the town did not have to wait too long for their first victory by Sweatman in the boys’ 10 years and under 50-metre freestyle as here he set a new record of just 31.15 seconds.
Pershore’s next victory came from Isabella Woodcock in the girls’ 10 and under 50m breaststroke in 44.74.
Pugh won the 12 and under 50m butterfly in a record 31.31 and the 10 and under medley relay team of Naomi Marsden, Woodcock, Maisy Robertson and Daisy Tolley triumphed in one minute 15.65.
Pershore also took the boys’ 10 and under freestyle in 1.05.91 thanks to Tom Bailey, Chris Vizard, Sweatman and Gearey.
Pugh chalked up another record with 28.84 to win the girls’ 12 and under 50m freestyle, while Marsden claimed the 10 and under 50m backstroke title.
Gearey won the next event in the boys’ nine years 50m freestyle in 36.51 before he broke the record in the 25m freestyle in 16.51.
A further victory came from the 12 and under freestyle team of Sweatman, Joseph Doyle, Jack Betteridge and Drew Jones.
Sweatman gained maximum points again in the 11 and under 50m freestyle as the club climbed to second place in the table.
They finished runners-up on the day on 199 points behind Bilston’s 241 but ahead of Cannock Phoenix and Northgate from Shropshire.
Second places, boys : Sweatman 10 and under 50m breaststroke, nine medley relay (Sam Doyle, Luke Betteridge, Gearey and Hamish Cross), 10 and under medley relay (Doyle, Sweatman, Josh Sharratt and Bailey), Sharratt 10 and under 50m backstroke and 25m butterfly, Sam Doyle nine years 25m backstroke, 12 and under 4x25m medley relay (Owen Leeks, Jack Betteridge, Jones and Joseph Doyle); girls : 12 and under 4x25m medley relay (Marsden, Hannah Kenwright, Pugh and Louise Hird); mixed : 8x25m freestyle relay (Megan Annis, Gearey, Tolley, Sweatman, Jasmine Taite, Sammy Whitehill, Pugh and Leeks).
