First published in Sport

PERSHORE High School sixth form pupil Amy Johnson successfully competed in the Atlantic Challenge in Bantry Bay, Ireland.

She sailed captain’s gigs for Great Britain against 16 other nations as they finished fourth behind Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Russia.

Johnson had prepared for a year and competed over nearly a month after raising funds for the International Maritime Training Trust.

They ended just seven points behind the winners but 40 ahead of fifth spot.

The teenager said: “I had a truly life-changing experience.”
