FLOORBALL: Chipping Campden secure superb treble

First published in Sport

CHIPPING Campden School claimed three straight wins in the second week of the Cotswold League.

They set their stall out with a Matthew Davis goal on just 10 seconds and he sealed his hat-trick in a comprehensive 4-0 victory over St Catharines with Elliott Thombs also on target.

The Federated Swell and Longborough team did not play badly but their inexperience showed as they were overwhelmed 7-0 by Chipping Campden.

Davis scored again alongside Jamie Chinn-Brown, William Parr with a fine long-range shot, William Marks, Barney Bryan and Jamie Short (2).

Freddie Roberts unleashed a stinging shot for Swell only to be denied by keeper George Kirby.

Temple Guiting gave the senior school a much tougher time before Annabel Lockie eventually put them ahead.

Thombs’ excellent shot from the left wing settled the match and Davis netted on the counter-attack late on for a 3-0 success.

This left the three primary schools fighting for the playoff spots which proved a close tussle.

Swell and St Catharines had several chances with both teams losing players to the sin-bin for high sticks but keepers and defences held firm in a rare scoreless draw.

Temple Guiting went behind to a Giles King goal against St Catharines but equalised when a parried shot found Tom Durrell lurking on the edge of the box and he made no mistake with a smart finish.

With seconds left, Richard Lamb scored the goal of the night with a superb flick to earn Guiting the win, leaving Saints in the third-ranked play-off spot.

In the game to decide top place, Swell went ahead through Alfie Dodridge when the Guiting defence found itself in a muddle.

Guiting came back well until a Roberts breakaway goal gave Swell an unassailable 2-0 lead and the leading play-off spot.

In next Tuesday’s league action, Shipston, Dormer House, St Marys and newcomers Bourton-on-the- Water will meet at Chipping Campden School.
