A SEVENS tournament will be staged at Evesham as part of the RFU’s drive to increase participation among students.

The North Midlands FE/Sixth Form Sevens Series will be at Albert Road on March 6 from noon until 4pm as well as at Birmingham and Solihull and Shrewsbury on other dates.

Open to all sixth form and further education colleges within the North Midlands, there will be tournaments for performance, development and touch rugby (mixed).

• Youngsters from Evesham Rugby Club took part in mini-tournaments at Shipston- on-Stour.

The under eights Tigers beat Claverdon ‘A’ before draws against Stow ‘B’, Claverdon ‘B’ and the hosts.

Their only loss came against Stow ‘C’.

Evesham Lions recorded two wins, against Stow ‘A’ and Calverdon ‘A’, from their five games.

Two under nines sides played three games against Claverdon as well as Shipston ‘A’ and ‘B’, recording victories over the latter pair.

Evesham under 10s drew against Stow ‘A’ and ‘B’ and lost to Claverdon but defeated Shipston.
