Owain, 8, in historic black belt

First published in Sport

EIGHT-year-old Owain Griffiths- Johnson made history by becoming the youngest second-degree black belt in the United Kingdom in Korean karate.

The Church Lench youngster, who takes six classes every week, passed a demanding four-hour test in Stratford-upon-Avon.

His father Tony said: “We are all so proud of Owain. He is very dedicated and simply will not quit.

“We don’t push him, he has worked out for himself that to be successful you don’t give up. He is a great role model for the other children.”

The Pinvin First School pupil started training at the age of three and has had to work hard for all of his belts on his way to claiming black.
