Stow on fire with dominant display

First published in Sport

STOW-on-the-Wold crushed Harwell 74-5 in the South West League Berks/Bucks and Oxon Premier Division.

Despite the result, the hosts should have scored several more tries but handling errors and wrong decisions meant chances went astray.

Stow were almost out of sight within the opening quarter, the first score coming from a catch-and-drive touched down by Louis Chapman and converted by Nick Cafearo.

Almost from the restart, a run from Hugo Griffiths resulted in him touching down before James Holmes carved his way over with Nick Cafearo converting.

Harwell were living off scraps and from a mix-up in defence saw Holmes collect the ball to score with Cafearo again adding the extras.

Further pressure allowed Griffiths to score his second try before Harwell briefly rallied and touched down following a line-out. With moments to go before halftime, Cafearo scored and converted his own try to give Stow a 38-5 lead.

The hosts did not let up in the second-half with Alexander Kelly came into the line to score in the corner.

Griffiths then scored his third try from a quick penalty and Craig Chapman also got on the scoresheet, Cafearo converting both.

Replacement second row James Cox scored soon after coming on and Griffiths touched down for his fourth try which Cafearo converted.

The last play saw Craig Chapman touch down to round off a solid display.
