EIGHT members from Evesham Vale Running Club raced the Chester Marathon.

In cool, dry conditions, the runners were determined to reap the rewards of months of training. Lindsey Lewis- Painter finished first for the club with a personal best of three hours 21 minutes.

Leading for the Vale men was Jack Folkes in 3.46 in his first marathon.

Ann Tarry and Virginia Pawlyn also achieved personal bests with 3.58 and 4.14 respectively.

Denise James (3.56), Adam Spiers (4.04), Mike Crowther (4.26) and Paul Pitts (4.54) completed the course near their targets for the event.
