Rovers Off to great start to top league

OFFENHAM Rovers are having their best start to a Birdseye Sports Sunday Evesham League season for several years.

A 4-1 victory at Badsey Recreation took Rovers to the top of Division Three.

Trotman scored for Badsey but goals from Fisher, Griffiths, Hall and Martin earned Rovers the points.

A strong first-half performance saw Pershore High Old Boys end Gardeners Arms’ unbeaten start.

Hyatt (2), Ridings, Jones and Worthington scored for Pershore in a 5-1 success with Dyke replying.

Ashton won their first game of the season, hitting five without reply against Fairfield thanks to White (3), Shoots and Bernardo.

Elmley Castle made it five straight wins in Division Four as Chris Bate scored a hat-trick for the villagers in a 4-0 success over Stratford United.

Alcester Town won 8-0 at Sun Inn with Richardson (3), Beech (2), Chester, Jones and Greenwood scoring the goals.

Dragons maintained their strong start as Terry, Gisbourne and Mullins were on target against Bengeworth who scored through Jelfs.

Vale Wanderers defeated Ambi Allsports 5-1 with goals from Foxall (2), Ainsworth, Heath and Edgeworth.

Stour Excelsior Reserves and Pebworth shared four goals with Grace and Montgomery netting for the hosts and Sprigg and Turner replying.

Stour Excelsior first team won 1-0 in Division Two at Tesco United thanks to a second-half strike from Featherstone. In the Gloucestershire FA Sunday Premier Cup, Cheltenham Saints progressed with a 5-2 win at Hempsted, while Alderton, AC Olympia and WMK are through in the Intermediate Cup.

The Pershore Hospital Junior Cup saw Defford/Besford United, Broadway United and Honeybourne Gate Inn reach the last four.

In the Minor Cup, Broadway United Reserves upset higher-graded Lenches Lions 5-2, Bredon defeated Worcester side Claines 2-0 and Fladbury Athletic won 7-4 at Ambassador.
