EVESHAM suffered their second successive 5-0 defeat in ENER-G West Midlands League Division Two when they were routed by local rivals Pershore.

Pershore began strongly, trying to impose their high tempo passing game with Gareth Rushton and Russ McGettigan dominating in midfield but despite their early possession, the visitors failed to create many clearcut chances.

The opening goal came from a penalty corner when Russell Scudamore fed the ball to Steve Ridsdale and he lashed the ball home.

Evesham goalkeeper Andy Mabbett was enjoying a fine game and he denied Julian Heath and Karl Lawson to keep the score 1-0 at the break.

Anthony Handley finally gave Pershore the cushion of a second goal 10 minutes into the second-half, beating two defenders before finding the bottom corner.

Pershore pressed home their advantage and increased their lead through Rushton via a penalty corner.

Graham Handley then pounced for a fourth after Mabbett failed to clear a shot.

Evesham staged a late rally, earning several penalty corners, but keeper John Sharratt made a couple of stops before Anthony Handley wrapped up victory with a fifth goal.

Elsewhere, the seconds drew 2-2 with Barlaston and the thirds went down 5-0 at Aldridge and Walsall.

  • Evesham Badgers defeated their Bromsgrove counterparts 1-0 with a goal from Scott Ricketts.

The veterans were 2-1 winners at Droitwich, featuring two strikes from Powell.

(blob) Bretforton Ladies defeated Cheltenham Civil Service 5-2 despite conceding both goals in the first 15 minutes.

Hayley Whitehouse halved the deficit before the break and Deb Slatter’s strike brought them level early in the second-half.

Sue Headington and Emma Lowe then combined to feed player-of-the-match Julie Hall who swept home the third. Hall and Whitehosue both doubled their personal tallies to completed victory for Bretforton.

The seconds, who were forced to start with only seven players due to some getting lost en route, were edged out 3-2 in the reverse fixture in Cheltenham.

Andrea Cole and Gilly Wright were on target.

  • Sarah Rickey scored a hattrick as Badsey Ladies won 4-1 against Redditch in Worcestershire League Division One.

Redditch took an early lead but it wasn’t long before Badsey got into their stride and they equalised through Rickey.

She then added a second, along with a Lynne Ellarby strike before the break, and completed her treble in the second-half.
