Blockley battle to win clash

First published in Sport

BLOCKLEY Ladies made a positive start to their season in West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Severn Division One with a 6-4 win at Newent seconds.

A shaky start for the visitors saw them trail 2-0.

However, Blockley came out strongly in the second period and soon got a goal back through Dennie Honour following a short corner.

The equaliser soon followed from player-of-thematch Fiona Drinkwater but Newent went 4-2 ahead.

This spurred Blockley into life and a shot from the top of the ‘D’ by Donna Whitehouse kept them in the contest and soon after, a deflected shot by Sabrina Rew brought the sides level again.

Blockley kept pressing and added a fifth through Whitehouse before Drinkwater sealed the victory late on.

Blockley’s next opponents are Lansdown seconds on Saturday at Prince Henry’s High School (10am).
