On-fire St James 'B' dominate qualifiers
4:30pm Sunday 23rd December 2012 in Tewkesbury
THE Cotswold League qualifying stages concluded with the final set of ‘B’ team matches.
St James dominated to top the qualification, joining Shipston in the highest round of play-offs after Christmas.
Dormer House, Mickleton and St Davids brought young and less experienced players who gave spirited displays.
Chipping Campden School won all four games with James Elliott scoring six goals, many of them shots from narrow angles.
Elliott opened the scoring against Mickleton followed by Sian Nurse (2), Jamie Malin, Will Parr, Matthew Davis and Barney Bryan in a 7-0 victory. St Davids were defeated 6-0.
Dormer House suffered a similar scoreline against CCS, despite a couple of sinbinnings, with Parr, Carter, Elliott (two), Nurse and Icke all scoring.
The final match pitted CSS against ‘B’ team trophy holders St James and Elliott tucked the ball home in the first minute. Elliott appeared to have made sure of the win with his second of the match past Tim Wheatcroft.
With a minute to go, CCS lost two players to the sinbin but only conceded a consolation to Jamie Tolley.
St James beat Mickleton with two from Alfie Aubrey and one from Isaac Watts.
Dormer House were beaten by the same margin with Archie Griffiths getting a brace and Josh Hurdiss one.
St James beat St Davids 6-0 thanks to Aubrey (4), Watts and Tolley, while Mickleton and St Davids fought out a goalless draw.
Dormer House beat Mickleton 2-1 with Tom Davies netting twice early on before Demi Coyne found the target in the last minute.
In the all-Moreton battle, Dormer House earned the bragging rights when a Davies hat-trick put the match beyond doubt.
After Christmas, the playoffs for all three competitions will take place with the finals played just before Easter.
