BOTTOM-placed Evesham defied the odds in the South Warwickshire Summer League Premier Division.
They managed a 2-2 draw with Stratford-upon-Avon ‘B’ despite only fielding one pair which warranted a penalty deduction of one point.
Evesham’s available doubles took both rubbers with the other two awarded to Stratford ‘B’ as walk-overs.
The Vale heroes were Ray Foster-Morison and Andrew Crowther, who beat Ed Bosley and Sam Wilks 6-3, 6-4 and Sam Righton and Chris Marrow 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-2).
Stratford ‘A’ lost their first league match at the halfway point of the season when a weakened line-up lost 3-1 to Henley-in-Arden.
Alcester moved up to second spot after an excellent 4-0 victory over Claverdon and Shipston- on-Stour remain fourth despite a week off.
In Division One, Chipping Campden took over from Bidford- on-Avon at the top with a 3-1 win over fourth-placed Ardencote Manor.
Bidford lost their unbeaten record when fifth-placed Studley surprisingly defeated them 3-1 in a close match, while Littleton retained third position with a 2-2 draw at struggling Inkberrow.
Littleton ‘B’ lost 4-0 to Stratford ‘C’ in Division Two although it took two tie-break rubbers.
Studley ‘B’ extended their Division Three lead to six points after defeating secondplaced Chipping Campden ‘B’.
Division Four saw Inkberrow ‘B’ stay seven points clear at the top after they once again took maximum points in a 4-0 win over Pershore ‘B’.
Second-placed Moreton-in- Marsh recorded a fine 4-0 win at fellow high-fliers Snitterfield ‘B’.
HDA Redditch beat Inkberrow ‘C’ 4-0, while strugglers Alcester ‘C’ and Chipping Campden ‘C’ shared a 2-2 draw.
In Division Five, HDA Redditch ‘B’ held on to second spot after they beat Bidford ‘B’ 3-1.
Near the foot of the table, Henley ‘C’ closed to within one point of Moreton-in- Marsh ‘B’ when they defeated them 3-1.
