SHIPSTON-ON-STOUR suffered a 38-run home defeat to Wellesbourne in the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division.
After posting 186-9, Wellesbourne dismissed their hosts for 148 to claim 19 points to Shipston’s six.
Visiting captain Tom Stephenson extended his run of losing the toss to eight matches and his side were invited to bat on a pitch that offered much to the bowlers.
Jon Walker (3-36), back from injury, soon exploited conditions to bowl Prasad (2) before Luke Canning held onto a catch to dismiss Jamie Maynard (8). Gary Maynard and Nathan Edwards (2) also perished as the visitors slumped to 51-4.
Opener Tom Wheeler and Tom Shearsby added 54 for the fifth wicket, while D Mole (16) and Dave Barnett (23) also chipped in.
Wheeler’s fine knock ended on 58 with Wellesbourne closing on 186-9.
In reply, Jack Murphy and Paul Cross raced to 48 in seven overs for Shipston.
Jamie Maynard took a diving catch at mid-off to end the innings of Cross (19) before Walker (10) and Murphy added 24. Shearsby trapped Gary Betteridge lbw (1) with his first ball and took a return catch to dismiss Ireland (4).
When Murphy (43) lost his wicket to Jamie Maynard, Shipston had slumped from 72-2 to 97-8.
An eighth wicket partnership between Matthew Pratt and Canning gave some respectability to the score but their stand of 48 was ended when Canning (25) was bowled by Edwards.
Stephenson dismissed Pyne (1) and the innings concluded on 148 with Pratt unbeaten on 19.
Shipston seconds went down to a comprehensive 10- wicket loss to The Lenches in Division Two.
After winning the toss and putting the visitors into bat, The Lenches struggled and Shipston were 40-0 after eight overs.
However, the visitors were soon in trouble at 52-4 with both Ed Cottrill (3-21) and Paul (1-13) doing the damage.
Despite a spirited fightback from L Wickson (48), Shipston were all out for 120.
The Lenches openers Steve Protherough (62 not out) and Steve McNally (52no) saw out the game for their side.
